Art Eighty Seven House – Brickell Neighborhood of Miami, FL

Nestled between a 7-11 and the latest high rise development in Brickell sits a house that was built in 1920 and is one of the last homes to remain in a neighborhood slowly transforming into the next Manhattan. Ishmael Bermudez refers to his property as the Well of Ancient Mysteries.

At first glance, one is not sure if the home is a transformed art gallery, one that would fit in nicely into the Wynwood Art District, or an archaeological site searching for 2000+ year old artifacts. It is actually both.

The owner began digging on his property many years ago. Ismael Burmudez has become an amateur archaeologist after discovering a hidden, but mystical, spring that ran under his property. The spring has a sprout in the middle of the backyard and is believed to have been a settlement for native Floridians from many years ago.

This video is a tour of rare gem still remaining in the Brickell Neighborhood. I deliberately left the sounds captured in the raw footage to highlight how an old wood frame building, converted into an artistic canvas and engulfed by an archaeological site, sits in the middle of a growing city. The city sounds are the background to the video footage. Enjoy!!
