Its architect Zaha Hadid passed away in 2016 of a heart attack before project completion. Baghdad born Zaha Hadid, was the first woman and first muslim to win the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize. Her designs are famous for their bold, sweeping curves and include:

* The National Museum of the XXI Century Arts
One Thousand Museum has earned the nickname “Scorpion Tower” for its distinctive exo-skeleton construction. It removes the need for columns within the residences and was the subject of an Impossible Builds’ episode on PBS.
The 62 story, 709 foot tower includes 10 full floor penthouses, 70 half floor condos, and 4 townhomes.
David Beckham 
and his wife, former Spice Girl now fashion designer Victoria, paid $19.8 million for a 10,000 square foot full-floor penthouse at the tower.
