I finally went to Bread + Butter in South Miami, and as you can imagine, I was ecstatic to try it. In their own words, B+B “fuses the carefree charm of Cuba’s mambo era with the modish slant of the modern American gastropub.” It’s the perfect combination of a quaint, Jack’s Wife Freda-esque restaurant with the added benefit of God’s gift to Earth… Cuban food. I love the the variety in their menu and how they use colloquial terms like “cortadito” and “pan con mantequilla.” As expected, I was charmed. Because I’m trying to stick to being at least partially healthy… I had an egg white omelet. But it came with a side of home fries and a tostada, and I’m no hero. It was exquisite and to my surprise, really inexpensive for such a great meal. Really can’t wait to go back because my friends had the ropa vieja and I’m still regretting that I passed that up.

We stumbled upon this wall while wandering around Downtown Miami, it was apparently commissioned for Art Basel 2012 and directly in front of (in my opinion) one of the grimiest venues in the city, Mekka (not that I would know, though– blegh). And look at that, the wall matches me. I love the juxtaposition of something edgy with something more feminine, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
