There’s a story behind this dress. I bought it when I was just 14, which seems impossible to me now because I feel like I would have definitely grown since then. Horizontally mostly, so I will admit it does fit a bit tighter now than it did then. But I’m also surprised that it has consistently remained a piece that I have loved throughout the years. It’s one of my favorite dresses, and though I am a huge fan of Diane Von Furstenberg, this is one of the only pieces I own by her. Before leaving New York for Miami after my graduation in May, I took this dress to a little dry cleaner on Lafayette Street thinking I’d be able to pick it up in the morning before my flight. Of course, this never happened. I realized I had left it behind hours after I had touched land the next day, immediately thinking I would never see it again. Now that I look back, I can’t imagine why I didn’t just ask someone to pick it up for me and mail it, but I digress. Months after I had counted it as a loss, I’m back in New York, walking around SoHo without any semblance of a thought about the dress. But it just so happens I stumbled upon the dry cleaner. As fate would have it, the owner didn’t keep it for herself as I had imagined so many times. A few minutes later and my coral reef dress was back in my hands.

Today I woke up feeling like wearing a full skirt, but as I have yet to get all my things into my new apartment, my choices have been limited. But recently I’ve been obsessed with the silhouette of a long, full skirt; especially in the style that Tibi has been putting out (praying for this one to show up in my wardrobe unexpectedly). So I made do with what I had and off we went to pick up some flowers, walk around the Met, and to top it all off, I had my first taste of Papaya Dog– and certainly not my last. ‘Twas amazing.
