June 2014 – Miami to Manhattan

Last updated on October 8, 2021

I’d heard so many great things about The Regent Cocktail Club at The Gale Hotel so I finally went and I loved it. Makes me feel like I got taken back to the 20’s with the dim lighting, the rustic decor and the general ambience. It’s what you would call a ‘speakeasy’ but without the whole Prohibition. Isn’t almost impossible to think of a time alcohol was illegal? For THIRTEEN years. Anyway, I digress. There’s brown tufted leather couches, dressed up mixologists and portraits of historical figures hanging on the walls. Taking words from a random Yelp review I read before I went, it feels like the kind of place Sinatra would hang out in if he was still alive… and lived in Miami. I definitely recommend it if you’re into the upscale bar scene, and they have a pretty great rooftop as well, and we all know how I feel about rooftops.

I finally went to Bread + Butter in South Miami, and as you can imagine, I was ecstatic to try it. In their own words, B+B “fuses the carefree charm of Cuba’s mambo era with the modish slant of the modern American gastropub.” It’s the perfect combination of a quaint, Jack’s Wife Freda-esque restaurant with the added benefit of God’s gift to Earth… Cuban food. I love the the variety in their menu and how they use colloquial terms like “cortadito” and “pan con mantequilla.” As expected, I was charmed. Because I’m trying to stick to being at least partially healthy… I had an egg white omelet. But it came with a side of home fries and a tostada, and I’m no hero. It was exquisite and to my surprise, really inexpensive for such a great meal. Really can’t wait to go back because my friends had the ropa vieja and I’m still regretting that I passed that up.

This outfit makes me feel a little bit like a UF alum… but since Orange is indeed the New Black, I’ve decided it’s acceptable. By the way, if you haven’t seen Netflix’s original series Orange is the New Black already, well, what are you doing with your life? Needless to say I’m completely and irrevocably addicted. I love finding poetry on the streets, it mostly catches me off guard in the most charming way. One thing that caught me off guard and was not at all charming was the wet paint on the ledge I’m sitting on in the last photo. Made the best of it and walked around with white paint on my dress for a bit. Things happen.

I have a thing for rooftops. If you can put in on ground level, why not put it on the roof? This made Highbar at the Dream Hotel on South Beach, with it’s beautiful rooftop pool and courtyard, my ideal place to frolic around in a one-piece on the weekend. I love that one-pieces seem to be coming back into the mainstream with all the cut-out and bandage-esque styles that I’ve been seeing, and this Brynja Swimwear one was perfect for me. Just add a Tropical Cosmo and I was on my way to bliss.

I wore this little number to brunch with a friend at Juvia on Lincoln road, and though the classic romper situation often deters me from putting one on (the classic bathroom ordeal, I mean), it was the perfect lazy, throw-on outfit for a mid-day meal. I last wore this jumpsuit in my ‘Human Nature’ post a few months ago, but this time I went with the red heels. And red lips. Clearly I was feeling ‘some type of way.’ We stopped by for obligatory Laduree, which I ate with my white wine and subsequently felt like Marie Antoinette for the rest of the day. The view at Juvia is to die, but I’m not much of a seafood person and their menu is largely fish. But their sweet potatoes were pretty amazing.
