January 2014 – Miami to Manhattan

Last updated on October 8, 2021

Absolutely love Miami’s Design District. It reminds me of a cross between West Broadway in New York and Rodeo Drive. From Marni to Margiela, from Versace Home to Céline, the area hosts some of my favorite avant-garde labels. I am in love with pairing white with red, it feels very clean and very Valentino. I feel like I’m hardly ever not wearing a dress of some variation, so I vow to try to wear more pants in these coming days. Not like I have a choice considering I will be in Manhattan tomorrow…

  • Dress: Zara (now on sale!), Flats: Zara (old favorites), Bag: Chanel ‘boy,’ Sunglasses: Chanel, Jewelry: Rolex, Chanel

This was a spur of the moment brunch idea but I’m so glad we stopped here because the French Toast platter was SO GOOD. I’m a huge brunch person, but isn’t everyone given the opportunity and the right spot? I love the design at Soyka and the sun-drenched tables and decor in the back are my favorite. About the dress: I actually randomly walked into Zara at Dadeland and they’re having a huge sale– I saw this dress and immediately fell in love with it. Both of the ones I initially picked up had broken zippers and it just so happened this was the last unscathed one left. There may still be some left in stores, and it’s reduced to about $30. I absolutely love the color and the netting above the fabric. I’ve worn these shoes on the blog a lot, but I’ve never really talked about them. I’m not sure you can find them anymore considering they are from a few seasons back, but they were originally my mother’s. I fell in love and she never got them back!

  • Dress: Zara (similar here), Shoes: Chanel (similar options: here, here, and here on sale), Ring: Saint Laurent in ‘lapis,’ Bag: Celine, Belt: Zara (old), Sunnies: Chanel, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Lipstick: YSL #2, Brunch place: Soyka’s Restaurant

As some of you may know if you follow me on social media, I was on Deco Drive this week! I spoke to the creators of Buddha Pants (they’re so nice!) and got to talk about how I paired mine on the segment (click here to watch video).

I decided to give away one pair of the red pants worn in the video, and because they were made with yoga in mind and I’m an avid practicer, two yoga classes for first-time students at the studio I go to in Miami, Bala Vinyasa Yoga.   One winner will take the pants, and another will take the two vouchers for themselves and a friend.* YAY.

To enter:

  1. Make sure you’re following my blog updates and @miamitomanhattan on Instagram.
  2. Leave a comment below telling me what your favorite activity has been for the month of January (new resolution? sports? etc)

The winner will be chosen at random on February 5th. Good luck!

*The pants can be sent to anyone in the United States, but the vouchers only apply to Miami, Fl residents since the studio is in Coral Gables.

xx,

Grace

I’ve decided this is the best outfit to wear on a breezy al fresco shopping day, on a day when the temperature hovers around 65. But my favorite part, aside from the super comfortable Theory t-shirt dress, is my Miami to Manhattan manicure! The manicurist had such a hard time understanding why I would want the Empire State Building on one finger and a palm tree on the other. It was also my first time trying gel polish, and suffice it to say, I’m never looking back. The color is reminiscent of Essie’s Bikini So Teeny, which was not what I went in there going for at all but I am now obsessed all over again with light pastels.

In Drake’s relatively new song “The Language,” he croons: “I might just bring in some girls from Miami to heat up the city…”  Hm. Now this got me thinking, of course. For all of the times that I have spewed vitriol from my lips about my hometown, there are a million times in which I have felt grateful for my city. Grateful to be a ‘girl from Miami.’ And not just when we’re winning NBA titles (3-peat?).  And not because Drizzy counts on my people as heating devices. We are loud as a whole. We’re… interesting. We’re definitely relentless. We do not under any circumstances take no for an answer. And according to Drake, we make places warmer just by being present. Sometimes it takes a famous rapper on a top 10 song being overplayed by 103.5 The Beat (no complaints here) to realize how lucky you have it. After all, this is just another day in January…

I’m absolutely loving one-piece swimsuits lately. This one by Mara Hoffman is another great one (and this one! Gotta love Mara), and I LOVE this one by Vix Swimwear.

I bought this necklace at Zara (find it here on sale now) and I’ve been wearing it far too often. It dresses up everything. I’m also loving this one, and this one. My favorite look is pairing it with a bold color like the green from look 3, just peeking through. Below are some of my current favorites from Stella & Dot and Atlantic-Pacific’s collab with BaubleBar.

Check out BaubleBar for their whole selection of jewelry, and my favorite blogger’s guest collection here. This double arrow ring is one of my favorites!

The Shops at Bal Harbour is ~hands down~ my favorite shopping area in Miami. I love the architecture. I love that there’s everything from Saint Laurent to Scoop to Saks. The whole place makes me salivate like one of Pavlov’s dogs.
