#PielSanaEsBella – My Skincare Routine

I’ve been meaning to post my updated skincare + beauty regimen (find my last beauty routine here), but as always, the city pace has gotten the best of me and it’s already the beginning of Fall! With the weather changing, I always tend to change up my skincare products, a) because my skin dries out tremendously with the sharp NYC winds, and b) because I like to have my products reflect the season.

One of my biggest skin concerns aside from breakouts is making sure that I use the right products to keep fine lines away. My abuela always spoke about starting to take preventative anti-aging measures since I was a child, so at 25, I have all kinds of creams and moisturizers severely ingrained in my routine.

Step 1: I start off with removing all of my makeup with the Boscia MakeUp BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil.  I love that it removes every single trace of makeup while still being gentle enough to keep my face hydrated. I’m always very wary about oils because I break out easily, but this one has never given me a problem. Acne Sufferer seal of approval!

Step 2: I follow up with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser. This is another cleanser that I’m a big fan of because it’s gentle on my skin, picks up whatever is left after I remove my makeup, and leaves my skin fresh.

Optional Step 3: Once a week, or twice if my skin needs it, I use a charcoal mask to draw out any skin impurities, or to calm my skin if it’s feeling particularly congested. Origin’s ‘Clear Improvements’ Charcoal Mask is a great way to do this, and I always wake up with less breakouts and redness.

Step 4: Moisturizer is probably the most important part of my routine. I feel blessed that my Latin roots have gifted me with particularly resilient skin (figuratively and literally), and this is something I want to be able to enjoy throughout my life. Depending on how my skin is feeling, I use one of these three Neutrogena life-savers:

  • Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream Extra Dry – This super hydrating gel formula is perfect for the days that my skin is extra dry, so pretty much my best friend all winter. I love how cool and light the gel feels — I’ll apply it lightly before my makeup during the daytime, and straight after using my charcoal mask.
  • Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturizer – As a preventative measure, I like to use a light layer of this SPF moisturizer with UVA/UVB SPF 30; not only does it keep my skin extra supple and smooth, but it’s also a non-comodogenic sunscreen (which is hard for me to find). BONUS: Wearing this underneath my makeup doesn’t feel like I’m wearing a mask.
  • Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer with SPF 30 – Because I tend to get hyper pigmentation after a breakout, I use a toning moisturizer with Vitamin C to brighten my skin and even out any discoloration I might have. I exchange this one and the Hydro Boost Gel Cream whenever I feel like my skin is feeling dull and needs a magic touch.
